This course starts with the so-calles “Classical Period of Russian Literature “ with the mature works of well known literary Writers and leads through the several literary epochs until the present. Students will read and study selections from the poetry, prose, and drama of the period.

This course mainly enhances oral skills with the aim of practising communication strategies in most kinds of conversation situations. General subjects will be discussed by means of interaction among students and the instructor and among students themselves. Students will be trained in listening comprehension through audio-visual aids.

In this course participants are introduced to characteristics of different kinds of media. Students receive an overview about different categories of newspapers and magazines. The different kinds of newspapers and magazines are described, background information about different products of the press is acquired. Articles from newspaper and magazines are presented by students and then discussed. Basic knowledge about the Russian press laws is gathered.

This course represents an introduction of the Didactics (the WHAT) and the Methodology (the HOW) of teaching of a foreign language. We shall handle those methodological concepts that have had a substantial impact on teaching Russian as a foreign language throughout the history, but also the modern methods that have proved to produce positive results in the past 10-15 years. The students will learn to recognize the advantages and the disadvantages of the different methods of teaching and how to plan and perform a successful and interesting lesson.. Among some of the main parts of this course are: Analysis of course books, observation & performance of a lesson.

In combination with Russian for Beginners (2), this course introduces students to the basics of Russian language and Russian culture. The aim of the course is to develop communication skills in everyday life and simple situations. The course proposes a full competence in communication strategies and not only a linear assimilation of grammatical knowledge.

This course is to train students in writing free and guided compositions (e.g. narratives, descriptions, letters, etc.). It focuses on the different types of texts and styles of writing depending on the context and intention of the texts (types of speech and writing strategies). General rules of written Russian (accentuation, punctuation, word division, etc.) will also be studied.
