This course introduces students to basic concepts in morphology and discusses the major mechanisms involved in word formation: affixation, borrowing, compounding, conversion, etc. It also reviews lexical notions, including collocations and multi-word units, as well as sense relations, semantic change, and dictionary typology.

The major objective of this course is to provide students with strategies and practice necessary for developing and building key reading and listening comprehension skills The course is divided into Part One and Part Two. The first part of the course will focus on and deal with basic reading comprehension skills, with special emphasis on identifying main ideas, comprehending details, and making inferences . In the second part of the course, students will be introduced to listening comprehension skills, such as identifying main ideas, making inferences about people and context. This part will also focus on some of the more advanced reading skills involved in recognizing context, tone and attitude, main purpose, and organization.

This part will also focus on some of the more advanced writing skills involved in recognizing business, technical and professional writing.

The major objective of this course is to introduce students to some advanced grammatical issues through providing a context for the grammar focused on during the course. The course will look at and treat grammatical issues such as syntactic categories and highlights the division between lexical and grammatical categories. Students will be introduced to some of the more advanced grammatical issues involved in recognizing subordination, complementation and adjunction.

This is an obligatory 3-hour credit-hour practicum course in Applied English Program that aims at providing prospective graduates with training in public & private sector organizations. Experienced professionals in such organization and faculty members from the department supervise the raining. The course seeks to provide students with opportunities to apply their linguistic skills in the work place in both private and public institutions. It also aims at helping students to acquire new work-related skills and attitudes necessary for their future and career success
