The Physics Department is one of the oldest departments at the University of Jordan. It was establishment in 1965 and since then, it has developed both positive teaching and inspiring research environments. Currently, 31 full-time faculty members are resposible for teaching and supervising 350 undergraduate students and 120 graduate students working towards their prospective degrees as well. The support staff  is composed of 24 employees work as laboratory instructors, laboratory technicians, and workshops' electronic & mechanical  technicians and engineers.
The Physics Department offers courses that lead to B.Sc. degrees in both Physics and Materials Science.
The department has well established graduate programs that lead to:
(i)   M.Sc. degree in theoretcial, computational or experimental Physics;
(ii)  M.Sc. degree in Nuclear Physics;
(iii) M.Sc. degree in Experimental Medical Physics; and
(iv) Ph.D. degree in theoretcial, computational or experimental Physics.
 
  
It was founded in 1962 with the establishment of The University. Its area ~ 10500 m2 in addition to 4000 m2 of reading rooms scattered all over the University buildings.
