My research interest cover the following topics: the design and synthesis of new NLO optical materials based on mixed valence complexes. The optical nolinearity of these novel materials will be evaluated. These systems can be easily modified to and further investigate their potential electroluminescence properties.  The design and synthesis of novel piso-electric polymers and photogalvanic nanomaterials. The design and synthesis of novel pyridine based-chelating polymers and investigate their chelating properties with various metals. The design and synthesis of new heterocyclic systems with a potential antimicrobial activity.

:  Senior Chemist at Trans Photonics.
In this company I was encharged with the design and synthesis of all projects involved.
1. Design and synthesis of novel Nonlinear Optical (NLO) polymers bearing a new class of NLO chromophores.  Studying the performance of these NLO polymers in optical data storage and optical switching. In this project, NLO chromophores with a wide range of Uv-visible absorption were synthesized; colorless chromophores (320 nm) to red chromophores (600 nm).
2. Design and synthesis of near Infrared organic light emitting diodes (IR-OLED’s).  Various stillbene-based chromophores were synthesized and the electroluminescent emissions were fine-tuned by structural modefication. This was easily achieved by changing the conjunction length and the end groups.  The electroluminescence specra of these chromophores covers a range of 500 nm to 1000 nm.
3. Design and synthesis of organo-soluble polyimides as cladding layers.  These polyimide claddings layers can be fabricated carefully to enhance the adhesion and make it incompatible upon processing with active layer.  Various cladding layers with controllable refractive index (n0.005) were synthesized.
4. Synthesis and characterization of novel Water-Soluble polyimides. These polyimides were designed to develop a new class of cladding with enhanced adhesion properties.  These materials would be friendly to both chemists and enviromentalists.
5. Design and synthesis of conducting cladding based on polyimides and polybenzoxazoles. These systems were synthesized by incorporating a conductive moiety into the polymer structure to enhance the its electrical conductivity. These systems were designed so that the optical transperancy of the material is maintained.
6. Design and synthesis of silicon containing polyimides.  These kinds of polyimides will be susceptible to HF etching by virtue of the high concentrations of C-O-Si moieties. These polymers will be capable of being functionalized with NLO chromophores, thereby lending themselves to applications as active in electro-optic modulators and optical switches.
7. Design and synthesis of smart materials for sensing explosives, heavy metals such as lead (Pd) and biomolecules such as anthrax

1. Synthesis of Functionalized Polyimides:
Design, synthesis, and characterization of novel polyimides functionalized with nonlinear optical (NLO) chromophores, which exhibit a high thermal stability and large nonlinearity.
2. Polyesterimides:
Design, synthesis and characterization of novel polyesterimides bearing NLO chromophores with a large optical nonlinearity. The approach involves a multiple step synthesis of new monomers.

3.  Self-Assembled Supramolecular Materials:
Design and synthesis of novel NLO self assembled supramolecular materials based on hydrogen bonding. Different monomers were synthesized and various NLO chromophores were incorporated.  These novel systems exhibited a large optical nonlinearity coefficients (r33 = 70 pm/V). This r33 value is one of the largest values reported.
4. Electroluminescent polymers for light-emitting diodes(LEDs):
Synthesis of light-emitting materials. Various conjugated polymers such as, Polyphenylenethiophene and the novel polyphenylenefuran, were synthesized by utilizing the Stille coupling reaction. Their luminescence properties, photochemical stability and quantum efficiency were studied in details.

1. Heterocyclic Compounds with Antiviral activity:
Design and synthesis of guanine analoges by replacing C=O group at C4 by O=S=O. These analoges were expected to shot down the reproduction of viruses by irreversable binding to the reproduction enzyme active sites.

1. Tetrazines from via 1,3-dipole cycloaddition:
Selected series of 6-substitutes 4-aryl-3-heteroaryl-1-methyl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-s-tetrazines were synthesized via direct interaction between appropriate nitrile imine and methylhydrazones. Those systems exhibite a ring-chain tautomerizm in solution. The extent of tautomerizm was investigated by 1 HNMR and interpreted in terms of conjugative and electronic effects of substituents.
