The course involves separation, purification of and identification organic compounds through their physical properties: melting point, distillation, crystallization, extraction, and chromatography. Synthesis of simple organic compounds. Identification of basic functional groups through test tube reactions.

This course includes experiments deal with the following topics:
neutralization titration of aspirin, sodium hydroxide (direct, back and indirect titration), argentometric titration of halides, complexation titration of Ca & Mg ions, oxidation-reduction titration of ascorbic acid and gravimetric analysis of Ca ion.

This course includes experiments deals with the foolowing topics: Electrochemistry (pH & conductimetric titration curves), Spectroscopy (Paracetamol analysis by UV, Fluorescence emission of organic molecules, Atomic emission of K & Na, Identification of organic molecules by IR spectra), Nuclear Magnetic Resonance:- Identification of some organic molecules by H-NMR & 13C-NMR spectra, Chromatography (HPLC analysis of some drugs).

The Systematic Identification of Organic Compounds by employment wet chemistry methods and spectroscopic approaches

Identification of organic compounds by NMR and IR spectroscopy and MS. In addition, learning the basic in synthesis and reactions of ethers, carbonyl compounds, amines and aromatic compounds.

Synthesis and reactions of the following classes of heterocycles: saturated heterocycles containing one heteroatom (N, O or S); heteroaromatics: furan, thiophene, pyrrole, pyridine, quinoline and isoquinoline; indole; nomenclature of condensed heteroaromatics; natural occurrence and biological activity of hetrocyclic compounds
