Description
Academic Year
Physicochemical Principles of Pharmacy
The course aims at providing students with a frame work for understanding the phases and states of matter in pharmaceutical systems as a function of the physical properties of molecules making up these systems. Topics include properties of molecules, intermolecular interactions, states of matter, phase equilibria and physical chemistry of solutions.
1st.
Physical Pharmacy
Physical chemistry of pharmaceutical systems. The course attempts to explain the physicochemical factors at play in pharmaceutical systems through qualitative and quantitative discussions of solubility, partitioning, difussion, interfacial and complexation phenomena as well chemical kinetics.
2nd.
Pharmaceutical Technology I
A study of the art and science of development and manufacture of dosage forms with special emphasis on solid dosage forms. The topics include preformulation, milling, mixing, granulation, drying, tableting and quality control of solid dose forms.
3rd.
Pharmaceutical Technology II
A continuation of Pharmaceutical Technology II that covers additional topics pertaining to solid dosage forms (capsules and coating). In addition the course provides students with knowledge and understanding of the formulation, manufacture and quality control of pharmaceutical emulsions, suspensions and parenteral products.
3rd
Selected Topics in Pharmaceutical Technology
A discussion of strategies and technologies to optimize drug delivery.
5th.
Biopharmaceutics
The course discusses the interactions between pharmaceutical dosage forms administered via different routes with the physiological system and the consequences of these interactions on the ability to render drugs carried by these dosage forms bioavailable.
4th
Drug Delivery I
The sourse is taught with Dr. Ahmad bani Jaber. My part of the course discusses formulation design, manufacture and characterization of pharmaceutical particulates (micro and nanosized) and their applications in drug delivery.
MSc
Drug Delivery II
The course is taught with a number of faculty members of the Department of Pharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Technology. My part of the course desibes an integrated physicochemical, biopharmacetical and technological rational product development approach. topics include the dvelopment of biorelevant dissolution testing methodologies, development and application of IVIVCs as well as statistical modeling and optimization of pharmaceutical formulations.
