Muhannad Ismeik, PhD, PE

Associate Professor

Dr. Muhannad Ismeik is a faculty member in the Department of Civil Engineering at The University of Jordan, which is ranked 10th according to the QS 2026 Arab Region University Rankings. He is a licensed professional engineer with 30 years of broad international experience in multicultural and multilingual academic environments across the Middle East and North America.

Dr. Ismeik has a strong interest in undergraduate and graduate teaching and maintains close connections between the classroom and engineering practice. His teaching experience includes traditional instructional approaches and project-based learning (PBL) facilitation. He has taught Geotechnical Engineering, Foundation Engineering, Numerical Methods, Engineering Economy, Materials of Construction, Engineering Project (PBL), Engineering Skills (PBL), Engineering Design and Management Planning (PBL), Research Methodology, Geosynthetic Engineering, Advanced Soil Mechanics, and Ground Improvement.

Dr. Ismeik is a well-known expert in the application of geosynthetics in embankments, pavements, and retaining walls. His research in civil engineering includes experimental, analytical, and numerical components, focusing on the mechanical and durability behavior of soft soils stabilized with recycled materials, seismic design of earth-retaining structures, materials sustainability and characterization, public safety, and advanced computational intelligence modeling for engineering systems. He has published 36 scholarly articles in indexed journals and refereed international conferences and authored two chapters in reference books.

Dr. Ismeik has served on multiple technical and engineering education committees and project review panels. He is a member of many international associations and serves as a peer reviewer and editorial board member for several professional journals. Additionally, he has provided consulting services to community organizations, municipalities, and regional firms.
