The role of androgen and androgen receptor on breast cancer
Androgen receptor (AR) is expressed in normal mammary tissues as well as in 70% of breast cancer cases. This indicates that AR may play an important role in normal mammary function and tumor progression. My laboratory attempts to elucidate how AR may be utilized in understanding the progression of breast cancer and how it can be used as a therapeutic target. The AR-expressing breast cancer cell line, MDA-MB-453, is used as a model system in addition to classical cell lines such as MCF-&, ZR-75-1, and MDA-MB-231.
Biobanking
Biomedical research can be greatly promoted via the establishment of biobanks. A major factor in the success of biobanks is the public itself. It is therefore imperative to understand what the public think in order facilitate participation. This is particularly true for both healthy subjects and patients.
Role of microRNA in cancer
There is growing interest in the role of microRNA (miRNA) molecules in the progression of cancer. miRNA can also be used as diagnostic markers and therapeutic targets. A number of projects are initiated to investigate changes in the expression of miRNA in cancer in relation to androgen-regulated miRNAs and gliomas.
