This paper presents the Embodied ICU Sensory-Continuity (EISC) Model as a phenomenologically grounded and pragmatically oriented nursing model that integrates environmental design, architectural insight, nursing practice, and family participation to enhance lived experience in intensive care. Drawing on Merleau-Ponty’s phenomenology of perception and pragmatist philosophy, the model conceptualizes ICU care as an embodied, relational, and modifiable rather than a confining, degrading, and dehumanizing experience. The paper outlines the philosophical foundations of the EISC model, explicates its core components, and proposes a mixed-methods framework for empirical inquiry consistent with nursing epistemology.
